Membership FAQ

Hopefully you can find an answer here to any questions you have, but if not feel free to e-mail us and ask.

Do I have to own a VW to become a member ?
No, but it's a good idea.
Most people in the club own a VW of some sort, but it's not like you have to drive one every day. You should at least like VW's... we are a VW club after all !

I have a VW, but it's not in very good condition... does that matter ?
No - not at all - all VW's are welcome !
In the club there are lots of daily-drivers (both air-cooled and water-cooled), a few fully restored cars, a lot that the owners would love to fully restore and some cars that you'd politely call "shed condition".

How much does it cost ?

  • $40 for ordinary membership (single, couple or family)
  • $30 per year for concession (pensioner or student)
  • $5 per day for associate

What does membership get me ?
Other than being in a great club of friendly and helpful people, you get:

  • 1 x Club General Meeting each month (except January)
  • 1 x Club Social Event each month - cruises, shows etc.
  • Special dealer-invited VW drive days (1 or 2 per year)
  • Eligibility for CAMS membership
  • 1 x Club Newsletter each month
  • 2 x Club stickers
  • 1 x Club Membership Card

How long does my membership last ?
Memberships run for 12 months from when the club accepts your application.

How long will it take for my membership to be approved ?
Membership applications have to be approved at a General Meeting, so depending on when we get your application it could take up to a month to be approved. If there's some reason you need membership quickly, probably best to contact us first.

Do I have to come to the meetings ?
No, but again it's a good idea to... how else will you get to know everyone?
We understand people get busy, our meeting nights might not suit etc. etc. so it's completely fine if you can't make it.

Do you do things with other clubs ?
Yep - we sure do. We mix-in with a lot of other Qld based car clubs as well as other VW clubs around Australia.
A few members go to "Bug-In", which is held in a different state each year. In 2010 VWDCQ hosted Bug-In, when we introduced interstate clubs and their members to Stanthorpe and the Granite Belt region.

If I become a member, can I get cheap rego ?
You become eligible for it - yes - but there's a bit more to it than that.

  • Your car has to be at least 30 years old
  • You have to stay within the usage restrictions (its not intended for daily drivers)
  • You have to have been a member of the club for at least 12 months, and keep your membership current
  • and the club has to inspect and date your car then sign-off on your paperwork
